Kingsley Hall opened in September 1928 and is still a community centre for the people of Bromley-by-Bow, It was founded by sisters Muriel and Doris Lester, who were Christian socialists, feminists, educationalists and peace campaigners.  Their family was wealthy, but the sisters came to live and work in Bow as young women in 1908.  The architect, Charles Cowles Voysey,
