Rooted in Care: Safer Births, Brighter Futures – Advocacy Day
The Maternal Wellness Village functions under the auspices of the Oshun Family Center 501(c)3. The Maternal Wellness Village is a village of birth workers that include Therapists, Doulas, Lactation Consultants, Holistic Healers, Infertility warriors and Nurses. Combined, we have multiple levels of education and life experiences, over 50 years of parenting skills, 35 years of lactation support, 25 years of providing labor support and 10 years of mental health support. The mission of the Maternal Wellness Village is to function as an action oriented task force by providing support services to empower communities throughout the African Diaspora. Through our efforts, we aim to increase modern adaptations of ancestral birth practices, reclaim the Black birth experience and reduce black maternal mortality. Black Maternal Health Week and Black Breastfeeding Week aims to not only draw attention the maternal and infant mortality Black birthing people face, but also bring awareness to the innovative solutions being brought forth by and for the Black community. The Maternal Wellness village is working on finding innovative solutions to address maternal health disparities in Philadelphia. With your support, we can create and sustain programs, workshops, and support groups to empower, uplift, and heal Philly’s Black birthing community.Registration is now live! #BMHW24
