Being self-employed can be a very appealling option if you have health issues or a low income, but fear of losing your current financial stability without being certain that your business will be a success.
If you've always dreamed of working for yourself and your household relies on state welfare support, this workshop will help you to figure out how to move forwards with your business plans without making your financial situation worse.
This workshop explores how the various paths to being a business owner intersect with the realities of claiming benefits. You will understand how your benefits could be affected by starting a business, know what your rights and responsibilities are in relation to the DWP, HMRC and local authorities, and be able to identify the right route for your situation.
The relevant benefits explored in this workshop include Universal Credit, ESA, PIP, and Carer's Allowance, and the content is based on the rules that apply in England and Wales. In most cases, this will apply equally to claimants in Scotland and Northern Ireland, but please do check guidance for your country.
Delivered by May Fairweather, who established a CIC while claiming Universal Credit and Carers’ Allowance, and successfully got DWP policy changed to acknowledge the unique situation of asset-locked corporations.
