Join us aboard the Floating Garden for an enchanting evening of culinary exploration, cultural immersion and nature connection. In this Spring Edition of our Floating Feast series, we'll delve into the art of making Chinese dumplings (饺子, Jiaozi), a dish rich in tradition and flavour.

We'll gather an array of vibrant, fresh Spring ingredients, including some magical picks from our own garden, to create a variety of flavourful dumplings. Throughout the evening, you'll master the skills of dumpling making, uncover the stories and cultures behind Jiaozi, and enjoy the flavours of the season with a delicious feast.

What to Expect:

Share in Jiaozi culture and gain insights into the history and stories behind Jiaozi in Chinese culture, including regional variations and traditional occasions for their preparation.

Engage in a hands-on session where you'll learn to prepare and fill dumplings with seasonal plant-based ingredients, exploring various folding techniques and cooking methods.

Savour the dumplings you've crafted alongside a selection of delicious savoury and sweet dishes and share stories as you take in the sights and sounds of the watery landscape.

Reflect on the experience, and receive a curated recipe to recreate the dumplings at home.

Things to know:

The event will be hosted inside our heated indoor space for most of the evening. You will be invited to explore the garden so make sure to bring an extra layer to keep warm.
You will be seated with other guests to a random seating plan as this is a communal dining experience.
The menu is suitable for vegetarians and we can cater for gluten free guests. For all other dietary requirements just let us know and we’ll try our best to accommodate you.

All proceeds will support Global Generation and Canal Dream CIC in delivering more community projects.

Global Generation is an environmental education charity with garden sites located throughout London. We offer activities such as urban food growing, supporting bees, carpentry, cooking, storytelling, creative writing, performance and more. About the Space and Accessibility: The Floating Garden is a barge moored along the Regents Canal near Coal Drops Yard with views of the surrounding area. There is an indoor classroom space on the barge so the session will go ahead rain or shine. The barge is not yet completely wheelchair accessible - there is a set of stairs that lead directly to the mooring or lifts that give access to the towpath, however there is one step required to get from the towpath to the barge and steps from the main deck area to the toilet. Please speak to the team if you have specific accessibility questions.
