Overview

Hear insights from councils who have already merged & existing mayoral authorities. CE UK will also update on how the scorecards will work.

The next few years will change how local government is organised across England. Both devolution and local government reorganisation (LGR) will come into effect, setting new council boundaries and new decision makers.

We know that these changes have led to the concern of climate action being sidelined as local government reorganisation and Devolution become the pressing matters, we’ve heard:

  • Uncertainty about how to best support the process of embedding climate action, either as a campaigner or an officer.
  • Fears that climate action will be forgotten as the changes take place.
  • Questions on how the Scorecard timelines will work alongside these changes.

These responses are expected and they are being experienced across the UK. Over 75 minutes we will provide an open space to hear from those who have been through similar experiences in the past few years; their successes and learnings to make sure local climate action is prioritised as new authorities are set up and Mayors get into place.

This event is for council officers, councillors and campaigners working with their local council.

Speakers:

  • Local Government Reorganisation focus - Jos Holmes, North Yorkshire Combined Authority
  • Devolution focus for Officers - Daniel Gregory, Birmingham City Council
  • Devolution focus for Campaigners - Chris Holloway, Hampshire Climate Action Network
