Clive Lewis MP to host ‘Dirty Business’ screening and panel of campaigners and whistleblowers on Britain's failing water system
The event brings together the campaigners, whistleblowers, and filmmakers behind the recent factual drama, Dirty Business, following a recent meeting in Parliament. The event is free to attend.
The three-part series, watched by 4.2 million viewers, investigated England’s water companies and the human impact of sewage pollution. Based on a decade-long investigation, the programme focused on the real stories of whistleblowers and families affected by polluted water.
The Norwich event follows a briefing hosted by Clive Lewis in Parliament, where MPs heard direct testimony from the people featured in the documentary. Among them was campaigner Julie Maughan, who spoke of losing her daughter after exposure to polluted water.
Clive Lewis MP said:
"In the decade I have served as MP for Norwich South, I have rarely attended a meeting as moving as the one we held in Parliament. Hearing a mother describe losing her child is something I will not forget.
"Since introducing my Private Member’s Bill to bring water back into public ownership, I have read the reports and heard the evidence. But nothing prepares you for sitting in a room with people who have lived the consequences. When a system allows pollution on this scale and continues to reward failure with profit, we have to be honest. This system is doing exactly what it was designed to do."
The upcoming event at The Forum will include selected clips from the programme followed by a discussion on public health, regulatory failures, and the arguments around democratic ownership of water services.
