A scenic walk to the top of The Wrekin - returning via Little Hill & through Saplins Farm to return alongside the river.

From the Toll House we go over the bridge, along the Wharfage and up to the Rotunda and Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron. Turning into and up through the woods, we skirt around Little Wenlock and then it is uphill, through Huntingdon Farm. After reaching Forest Glen car park we climb straight up to the top of The Wrekin and Little Hill. Thereafter it is all mostly downhill through Saplins Farm to Buildwas following the river back to start.

Grade of Walk: Strenuous

Length: 15 miles

Pace: Steady

Terrain: mixed - brief busy road section leading to Buildwas bridge (A4169) - otherwise reasonable paths/field paths/woodland/minor-lanes

Steps and Stiles: a few stiles/no major steps, but a strong climb out of The Gorge and a very strong ascent up & equally strong descent down from/to The Wrekin.

Dog Friendly: NO

Specific Walk Information - can be very slippery if wet, and there are usually quite a number of people walking up The Wrekin.

Essential Information for Walkers

All walks take place within the Ironbridge Gorge which will naturally include uphill and downhill sections.

Please come prepared for the walk, with water, drinks, snacks and lunch as appropriate as it is not possible to purchase items on route.

Good walking boots/shoes are essential and be prepared for wet or sunny weather- possibly both in the same day!

Under 18s, accompanied by an adult with parental responsibility, may be able to undertake this walk. Please contact info@ironbridgewalking.co.uk to discuss.

Please allow plenty of time to reach your event parking can be tricky in the gorge! It is possible to reach Ironbridge via public transport but there are limited services. For information on local bus services see www.arrivabus.co.uk or www.telfordpublictransport.co.uk .

Medals are available for anyone completing 25,50,75 or 100 miles over 3 or more walks during the festival and if you complete over 150 miles you will receive our new Cartman Challenge medal – it has been done!!!
