About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

The walk begins at Broseley Library and takes a route through the quiet back streets of Broseley. After crossing the Broseley/Benthall Road, we enter ‘Jitty Country’. The Jitties wind along the eastern slopes of the Benthall valley. They date back to the 18th Century, and were built to allow access from the Broseley area to the mines, tile works and foundries of the Benthall valley. Some of the houses we will pass are squatters cottages, and have changed little since they were constructed. Many have unusual names, often reflecting their origin or local family names. Eg Pugh’s Jitty, Jews Jitty, Ding Dong steps.
After weaving our way through the jitties, we will return to the town centre via Cape Street and Duke Street, passing Broseley Pipe works en route.
