About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

Manningham Mills, formerly Lister Mill, was built in 1873 for Samuel Cunliffe Lister in a bold Italianate design, with rich decoration and a unique chimney, is but one of a number of great Victorian buildings that still surviive in this cosmopolitan suburb of Bradford.

Meet in Manningham Mills (entrance from Patent Street) at 14.00 for a short talk on the history of these mills and of key sites to be visited on the walk.

From the mill we will walk round to see a number of nearby surviving c19 buildings that tell the story of this area, including Lilycroft School, Tradesmen's Homes, Bavaria Police Station and the former Bradford Children's Hospital.

There is free parking on Patent Street, adjacent to the mill entrance. The 620 bus from Bradford bus/train Interchange stops at the opposite end of the building. Alternatively, it is a 15-minute uphill walk from Frizinghall station which also has direct trains from Leeds.
