Dear colleagues, You are cordially invited to join us on April 28th, 2021 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM GMT) to the launch event of the first-ever Africa Migration Data Network!Please register here on eventbrite to receive the log-in information for the online event.Please note: This event will be held in English, French, Portuguese and Arabic with simultaneous interpreting.Producing reliable migration statistics is necessary for the implementation and monitoring of migration and development initiatives. Despite the progress made on migration statistics in Africa over the past decades, there are persistent gaps in the quantity and quality of the data collected by national and regional actors. To enhance AU Member States’ and Regional Economic Communities’ (RECs) capacity to effectively and sustainably improve migration governance, there is a need to strengthen the collection, management, analysis and dissemination of migration data that will inform policy formulation and implementation. Thus, a strong collaborative effort needs to be established among all relevant institutions working on migration data at the continental level. In this context, we propose to forge and foster a partnership at the continental level through the establishment of the Africa Migration Data Network (AMDN).The Network will include migration focal points in National Statistical Offices (NSOs), key migration-relevant ministries in each country in Africa as well as representatives from Regional Economic Communities. Its steering committee includes representatives of the AUC, IOM, Statistics Sweden, and the OECD.
