About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours 30 minutes

One of a series of identical guided walks taking in some of the key installations around the common. The walk is about 3 miles long and takes roughly 2 hours.

Please wear sensible clothing and footwear since some of the terrain is uneven. Dogs are permitted but must be kept on a lead. Walkers attend these walks at their own risk.

Tickets (£5 + booking fee) must be pre-booked. The cafe will be open after the walk for refreshments. Walks are on the following dates. All start at 10.30am:

Greenham Control Tower opened its doors in Summer 2018 as a visitor centre and community hub with the aim to preserve and share the historical legacy of one of the few remaining airfield buildings. Telling the story of Greenham Common whilst supporting and cooperating with local organisations for the benefit of the whole community. Run entirely by volunteers, we want to promote four key themes:

 

THE MILITARY AND COLD WAR HISTORY OF THE COMMON

THE SOCIAL HISTORY OF THE COMMON

THE ROLE OF PROTEST IN SOCIETY

 

The control tower offers an open space to enjoy the common from a fascinating and dynamic location with a range of activities and facilities aimed at all ages to educate, inform and entertain where you can reach for the skies from the comfort of the ground.
