About this course

Have you ever fancied being an artist, or maybe it was once a passion that needs reviving?

On this course you will learn the basics of drawing, shading, and art appreciation. You will learn about the importance of Art, and how to be a reflective practitioner. You will learn how to produce a sketchbook/portfolio, and how to develop your artistic skills for future goals.

By the end of the course, you will have the basic skills to produce a range of art pieces, as well as debate the work of famous artists. You will have the skills to become a reflective practitioner and the confidence to pursue art projects.

What will be covered on the course?

Week 1: Mark Making.

Week 2: The Colour Wheel

Week 3: Still Life

Week 4: Portrait

Week 5: Landscapes- 1 point perspective

Week 6: Landscapes- 2-point perspective.

Each week you will have a piece of optional homework and complete and submit comments on an independent learning journal.

At the end of the course, you can request a Certificate of Attendance.

Resources required by Attendees:

  • Paper and a Pencil is needed for week 1.
  • For week 2 onwards, learners will choose their medium to experiment with.
  • As this course is online, a suitable device such as laptop, smart phone, tablet or computer will be required to access the course. The link for you to join the live sessions will be sent to you once your enrolment has been completed.

  • Complete our INSPIRE ONLINE ENROLMENT FORM for each person attending the course.

To book and enrol on one of our courses, you must have been living in England and have been resident in the UK for the past 3 years.

Some exceptions may apply if you are living in England with evidence of the right to remain and are from an EEU/EEAU country (completion of a questionnaire will be required).

As we no longer receive funding for our ESFA-funded courses for learners living in the devolved areas listed below, full cost fees would apply to these courses if you live in these areas:
