We are opening this building as part of Heritage Open Days .
Clavell Tower is a four storey, circular tower standing high on the cliff above Kimmeridge Bay overlooking one of the most striking bays on the Dorset coast. Here is the Jurassic Coast, England’s first natural World Heritage Site, and the South West Coastal Path runs past the door. Built in 1830 Clavell Tower's location has captivated many including writers like Hardy and PD James.
Admission is free and leaflets on the building's history and children's activity sheets will be available.
PLEASE NOTE - There is no parking in the village at all. The Smedmore Estate on whose land Clavell Tower stands has a parking area which costs £6.00 (card payments only) for the day and this give access to the coast line and to the property. Once parked, Clavell Tower can only be reached on foot up a steep coastal path.
We do all we can to enable access wherever possible; for further information or if you have any access concerns that you’d like to discuss before visiting, please contact our Booking Enquiries team on 01628 825925 or booking@landmarktrust.org.uk. The Booking Office is open Mon to Fri - 9am to 5pm.
As a charity, the Landmark Trust relies on donations to support our work. We couldn’t have rescued over 200 Landmarks without the support of people like you.
Your support saves historic buildings in danger of being lost forever and makes them available for all to experience and enjoy.
Your donation could help train the craftspeople needed to restore buildings like this, or it could offer opportunities to young people to experience history first-hand, through our open days and free stays for study groups.
We would be delighted if you felt able to add a gift to your booking today. We can’t wait to stay in touch and show you the difference your support has made. Thank you!
