Do you have some free time you'd like to spend helping others?

Join our volunteer group at Clapham Community Canteen and together with other busy bees prepare and serve a three-course vegetarian meal for members of the local community.


Wondering what exactly you will do? 📋✅

The volunteering groups takes full ownership of the community kitchen during their session! When you arrive at 10:30am, you will be introduced to the kitchen and invited to plan and cook a healthy three-course vegetarian meal consisting of a starter, main dish, and a dessert. The pantry ingredients and fresh produce are provided through surplus donations and every week the ingredients will be different which means lots of room for creativity.

Your kitchen team will serve your masterpiece to the members of the local community from 1:00pm. The volunteering session is expected to finish around 3:00pm.

Our Clapham Community Canteen operates on Wednesdays 10:30am-3pm from Clapham Park Cube, 116 Kings Avenue, London SW4 8EP. To volunteer with us, please choose your available date(s) and book your ticket.

Upon confirmation, you will receive a volunteering information sheet which includes the location, timings, and job descriptions. All volunteers will be sent a Kitchen Safety Quiz and a Food Hygiene video which we encourage you to engage with prior to your selected date.

Important information

  • We often host corporate volunteers at our canteens as a team. If a date is not shown it is because we have a group coming together that day. We still very much welcome individual volunteers on other sessions.
  • All ages are welcome, however if you are under the age of 18, please contact the organiser for more information.
  • Is the date or canteen location you want full? Contact us to be added to our wait list. Email volunteering@be-enriched.org and provide your name, contact number and session date(s) you are interested in joining.
  • For the Corporate Group Bookings, sponsorship is involved, and the group must contact Kumiko, Volunteer Coordinator to arrange the session. This requires the group to submit a booking form and session details to be agreed.
  • From January 2025, if the corporate group selects individual volunteers (FREE TO BOOK & ATTEND), they can book up to three individual volunteer slots. Four or more slots will automatically create a Corporate Group Booking (with sponsorship).
  • If you require extra support to attend the session, please email kumiko@be-enriched.org to arrange your booking(s).

Frequently asked questions

How long is one volunteering session at Clapham Community Canteen?

Each session takes place on Wednesdays from 10:30am to 3pm. Volunteers arrive at 10:30am and start cooking, serve the food at 1pm to the guests, wrap up and leave at around 3pm.

Do I have to be an experienced cook?

No, you don't need to be an experienced cook. Our welcoming community embraces individuals of all cooking skill levels. Volunteers collaborate, giving room for learning and support.

Founded in 2013, Be Enriched has been working hard to reduce social isolation through food and friendships. We bring people together to share knowledge and cultivate long-standing relationships over a bite.

Our Community Canteens served over 3,000 meals in 2022, working with 650 volunteers. Each week at three different locations in South London, both individual as well as corporate volunteer groups get the chance to step into the shoes of professional chefs and prepare and serve a three-course meal using surplus food to the Canteen Guests.
