About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

European Writers Salon (www.saloneurope.org) is travelling to Berlin to host an open mic salon. All are welcome!

We'll listen to excellent readings, drink wine and get to know writers from Berlin and across Europe in a friendly setting.

If you want to read, please email contact@saloneurope.org as soon as possible as places will be limited.

Further details will be made available nearer to the time including exact timings.

This will be a friendly and welcoming event - if you are planning on coming alone, don't worry! We will be in touch with everyone in advance and will arrange opportunities to meet/write/eat/book accommodation together around the evening event so that everyone meets new people and feels part of our community.

We've made two ticket prices available - for those who can, we'd appreciate if you can please help us cover the costs of organising this event but everyone is equally welcome.

We look forward to meeting you in Deutschland.

Frequently asked questions

Who are European Writers Salon?

We are a volunteer group of writers organising events for other writers. Our mission is simple - Connecting Writers in Europe. We run a large annual event and lots of mini events. This is our first trip to Berlin. Find out more about us at www.saloneurope.org.

Where is the event happening?

Lettretage is an anchor institution for the literary scene in Berlin that provides space for readings and performances. We are delighted they have agreed to host us: https://www.lettretage.de/en/

Where will people be coming from?

We hope that many writers from Berlin will come and also that others will travel from across Europe to meet one another. Everyone is welcome, from anywhere.

Will you provide food and drink?

No food this time sorry! But we will facilitate opportunities for people to eat together before the event e.g. setting up a slack or discord channel so you can be touch with one another, making recommendations about good places to go etc. There is a paid bar at the venue.

Will you provide accommodation?

No - you are responsible for all travel and accommodation. Nearer the time we will set up a slack or discord channel so people can discuss accommodation options and we will send out an email with information.

Will there be anything else going on in Berlin while I am there?

We are exploring whether we can also organise a writing session on Thursday daytime and will update you nearer the time. As well as this, we will set up a slack or discord channel nearer the time so people can arrange meet-ups/writing sessions/museum visits etc.

Do I have to read?

Definitely not - you are welcome to come and listen.

How do I sign up to read?

Email contact@saloneurope.org and we will send you details. Places will be limited and we will let people know once all slots are filled.

What sort of writers are you talking about?

All. Any. We welcome all writers in all genres at any stage of your career. If you want to come, we want to meet you.

Why are some tickets free and some paid?

We aim to keep our events as affordable as possible but as a new organisation we have costs to cover e.g. web hosting, publicity, volunteer expenses etc. If you can afford it, we would be very grateful if you can buy one of the paid tickets but we completely understand if not. ALL ARE WELCOME.

Who is this event for? Do I have to be European?

It's for everyone who wants to come. Live in Europe - great. Visiting Europe - great. From Europe but living elsewhere - great. You're all welcome. Whatever sort of writer, wherever you're from, whoever you know - we want to meet you!

I've got a question that isn't answered here

No problem - email us contact@saloneurope.org.

What COVID precautions will you be taking?

EWS wants to ensure our events are as accessible as possible for all. We follow WHO guidelines and will therefore provide masks for those who wish to wear them. We encourage people to test in advance and avoid coming if they have any symptoms.
