About this event

During the Second World War, the buildings around Westminster Abbey were places of action and destruction. At the height of the Blitz, bombs fell around the priests, politicians and decision makers, damaging numerous historic buildings, including the Abbey itself.

Since the end of the war 80 years ago, Westminster has become a site of national commemoration. The array of monuments in the vicinity of Westminster Abbey portrays a complex picture of a conflict that impacted not just those in Britain, but people across the British Empire.

Over the course of an hour and a half, Blue Badge Guide Katie Wignall of Look Up London will situate Westminster Abbey within this commemorative landscape and consider what it can tell us about both the impact and legacy of the Second World War.

At the end of the tour, participants will have the opportunity to take a self-guided visit of Westminster Abbey.
