This workshop is delivered by Cotton Town Bikes. It is free thanks to funding from CyclingUK's Big Bike Revival project.

This workshop is module 3 of a 6 module series on bicycle maintenance.

You will learn:

  • The tools you will need to be able to index your gears.
  • How your gears work.
  • How to make the necessary adjustments to make your gears work effectively.
  • How to use your gears efficiently.

Schedule:

  • 6:00pm - 6:15pm Check in/registration.
  • 6:15pm - 8:45pm Workshop.
  • 8:45pm - 9:00pm Q&A.

Frequently asked questions

Where are you located?

We are located on Blackburn with Darwen Services Junction4/M65. On entering the motorway services access road, immediately follow the signs for the DSA Test Centre. We are located on the Hub which is opposite the DSA Test Centre.

Is parking available?

Yes. There is free car parking available on The Hub. If travelling by bike you can leave it in our secure workshop on the ground floor.

Is the workshop accessible?

Unfortunately, the classroom is located above the workshop and only accessible by a flight of stairs.

What facilites do you have?

We have heated classroom, WC, hot running water and free refreshments including tea/coffee and biscuits.

How old do I have to be to attend the workshop?

The minimum age for attendance is 14. Attendees under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Should I bring my own bike to work on?

No. We have bikes available for you to work on during the workshop. If you want to learn how to work on your own bike consider booking on one of our home mechanic courses.

What should I wear when attending a workshop?

Wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Make sure that your clothing is not loose fitting and open to the point that it could become a hazard and get caught in a spinning bicycle wheel. Please tie long hair back and remove any jewellery. Wear closed shoes, not flip flops or sliders.

What qualifications does the tutor have?

Your tutor is a Cytech Master Mechanic and holds a relevant teaching qualification. He has many years experience fixing bikes, teaching cycle maintenance and assessing apprentices within the cycling industry.
