Cohousing – what’s it all about?

Housing Ourselves – Living in Intentional Communities

Wednesday 30th April 2025, 6:45 for 7:00pm

Cohousing communities are intentional, meaning residents share values and actively choose to live together, fostering a strong sense of community. Cohousing is a communal living model where residents live in private homes clustered around shared spaces, emphasizing collaboration, sustainability and social interaction, with residents participating in the design, governance and management of their shared living environment.

We invite Jude Tisdall from New Ground Cohousing to tell her story and experiences of setting up and living in a cohousing community in London, Stephen Willacy to tell us about how the Danes do this naturally, Kate Cornwall-Jones, Head of Development in Camden, on how to make it happen.

Chaired by Angela Brady from Hackney-based Brady Mallalieu Architects, who was first inspired by Cohousing in Denmark in the 1980’s, and wonders why more people don’t live in this ideal communal way, where you have control over your own living environment and know all of your neighbours.

Please join the discussion we hope the talks will spark!
