About this event

  • Event lasts 30 minutes

In this Collection Bites, you'll find out more about four legendary ancient currencies from China.

From the unique knife-shaped coins of the Warring States Period to the standardisation of Wu Zhu Coins in the Han Dynasty; from the financial revolution of the Jiaozi in the Northern Song Dynasty to the hustle and bustle reflected in copper coins from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, you'll hear fascinating stories about their history.

This is a special opportunity to get a closer look at some of the coins in the Museum's collections that are not currently on display.

Collection Bites is an adult programme, however the content is suitable for all ages. The talks are approx. 30 minutes. They take place on the first Wednesday of each month in Manchester Museum's Research Studio on the Second Floor (accessible by stairs or lift).

Please note: Tickets are very limited. If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your booking through Eventbrite, or email museum@manchester.ac.uk to let us know, so we can offer your place to someone else.
