About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours 30 minutes

What will I learn at Creative Screen Printing?

You’ll learn how to screen print onto fabric using paper and reuseable stencils. We’ll be using a simple method you can quickly, easily and inexpensively replicate at home.

Skills covered include good technique, what equipment is really essential and ways to balance texture, colour and form. You’ll be sent instructions after the class; leaving you free to enjoy the day without having to take notes.

What’s different about this course?

This isn’t a course where you reproduce a photo, image or drawing onto paper or a tote bag. It’s a full day of creative expression, where you’ll learn innovative, playful ways to use a silk screen at home. You don’t need to be able to draw; just bring an appreciation for colour and pattern!

Wendy will teach you a suite of ways to create beautiful colour effects, bringing life, texture and form into your printmaking - whether you’re a beginner or have already tried screen printing before. Many of these methods use materials you’ll either already own and some will be recyclable and/or reusable.

How could I apply these skills after the class?

This method of screen printing can be used to print on paper, wood and fabric. You could use your new printmaking skills to design and print your own fabric (for clothes or home furnishings), to make art, customise or upcycle clothes; make books...the possibilities are endless!

What will I take home?

You’ll take away around 10-12 prints at the end of the day. During the workshop we’ll bind these samples into a book of ideas, which you can use to inspire your printmaking journey when you get home.

There will also be an opportunity to buy the kit we use in class, so you can start printing at home *straight away*.

Materials Provided

Everything (also biscuits).

What to Wear

Wear something you don’t mind getting messy. The inks we’ll be using probably won’t wash out of your clothes, so an apron is a good idea.

Transport

Merseyway Workshop is within a short walk from Stockport train and bus station. Parking is available at the Merseyway Shopping Centre NCP.

Refunds and Booking Terms

Workshop places can be cancelled and refunded up until 14 days before the scheduled start date (though you can send someone else in your place at any time). After that date, Wendy will endeavour to move your booking to another class later in the year.

Organized by

Roby Workshop is a printmaking and craft studio run by me, artist Wendy Roby. I'm a printmaker who uses recycled and natural materials, making my own inks from plants found around Greater Manchester. My aim is to make art more accessible, teaching simple methods and techniques you can easily replicate at home, without needing huge amounts of money, space or equipment.

I have a CTLLS further education teaching qualification and lots of experience teaching art, crafts and printmaking to arts charities, community groups and private clients. Classes are small and relaxed with lots of positive feedback.
