MEETING POINT is inside the main gate by the Royal British Legion Memorial.
During this tour we'll be talking about three new headstones that were installed late last Autumn, two for brothers who served in the Royal Naval Reserve during World War One and a Merchant Seaman. For reasons that are uncertain they never had Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstones or private memorials. After some amazing research by several local historians, 'In from the Cold' and the Commission, they are now commemorated with new headstones, over a hundred years they died.
We will also visit the grave of one of the few female military personnel buried in the Vale of Glamorgan and hear her story at RAF Pembroke Dock, which was home to a large contingent of Sutherland flying boats.
We will also hear the story of a professional sailor who joined the Navy as a boy in 1906. He went on to serve on HMS Bulwark during the First World War, and was tragically involved in one of the largest single losses by the Royal Navy in that War.
Plenty of on-street parking on Cemetery Approach and surrounding streets; on-site facilities including toilets with disability access; good pathways but ground is undulating in places.
Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear.
The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.
