SPEAKERS
PROFESSOR DARIO FARINA (Co-Founder, & Scientific Adviser of Neubond; Chair in Neurorehabilitation Engineering, Imperial College London)
Dario was Professor at Aalborg University in Denmark, and at the University Medical Center at Georg-August University, Germany, where he founded and directed the Institute of Neurorehabilitation Systems until he moved to Imperial College London as Chair in Neurorehabilitation Engineering. His research focuses on biomedical signal processing, neurorehabilitation technology, and neural control of movement. Within these areas, he has (co)-authored approximately 400 papers in peer-reviewed Journals and >500 conference abstract and papers.
Dario is co-founder or Neubond, which specialises in personalised home rehabilitation devices for stroke patients to address their mobility constraints. Its innovative devices establish a direct connection to the patient’s body, seamlessly integrating effective therapy into their daily lives.
DR. CHIARA BOARD (Founder & CEO, P.Happi)
Chiara is Founder & CEO of P.Happi, biotech company developing microbiome-based intimate health products created for women by team of female scientists. Its patent-pending, science-backed technology is now available at p-happi.com!
Chiara has a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Synthetic Biology where she developed a mammalian cell-free protein synthesis platform to accelerate the screening of industrially relevant antibodies from AstraZeneca. Demonstrated history of working in R&D.
Chiar was previously a Marit Mohn Scholar, Scholar of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, and is Founder of WOMENinSTEM@IC, a networking platform for female academics at Imperial College London.
NICK GREENHALGH (Co-Founder & CEO of Luca Health)
Nick is an ex-professional rugby player who had to retire aged just 20 due to injury. He now uses his experience from pro sport as fuel to help protect and support the next generation through his important work on concussion at Luca, a Hammersmith-based health-tech.
Luca empowers schools to manage head injuries with confidence and deliver their sports programmes safely. It combines cutting-edge smartphone technology, artificial intelligence, and an intuitive desktop dashboard with expert medical oversight to provide seamless, end-to-end concussion management.
Its integrated, three-pronged approach removes uncertainty from the recovery process, giving schools clarity, compliance, and peace of mind.
DR. TOINET CRONJE (Director of Translational Sciences, Sequoia Genetics)
Toinét is Director of Translational Sciences at Sequoia Genetics - experts in leveraging genetic data for generating translational insights. Sequoia works with academia, investors, pharma and biotech by performing research that leverages genetic data to help inform drug discovery and development.
Its team is made up of biologists, clinicians, epidemiologists, statisticians, data scientists, bioinformaticians and industry experts that have collectively published hundreds of research papers in the field and are vastly experienced in translating genetic insights to guide clinical development decisions.
Toinét earned a PhD in Health Science from North-West University, South Africa, focusing on DNA methylation as a mediator between urbanization and cardiometabolic disease. She spent three years as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Copenhagen, working with proteomic data as disease biomarkers, and later shifted to drug target Mendelian randomization in both academic and industry roles.
DANIEL SIMILAKI (Founder, ACCSN - Afro Caribbean Commercial Science Network)
Daniel is Founder of ACCSN, the first professional network dedicated to raising the black and ethnic representation in the commercial science industry.
It was formed to support the development of aspiring and current professionals in the industry, make the commercial route more attractive for black and ethnic minorities, ultimately raising the representation whilst providing a space through which they can thrive together.
