Design Quest: House of Fun
Tuesday 27th May 2025, 11am to 4pm
For children aged 7 to 10 years.
RIBA headquarters at 66 Portland Place is closing for a redesign! So, now's your chance to get involved and design a wild and fun version of what the building could look like when it reopens. As a building that is not only the home of architecture, but also an interactive, life-size fun house for visitors to play and engage with.
Perhaps you could imagine the building as a colossal game of snakes and ladders? Or a giant marble run with slides and slopes to take you to all the different floors and rooms? Or maybe a design that is also a completely new game that you’ve created yourself?
In this creative architecture workshop, we will design and create a 3D model of a redesigned RIBA building that is also an interactive game. Transforming an architectural space into a play space. You will learn about building design, 3D modelling techniques and mixing play with design to create something completely unique and fun.
This creative architecture workshop for children aged 7 to 10 will be run by artist educator Katie Kennedy.
About Katie Kennedy
Katie Kennedy is a graphic designer and educator running her own design business alongside delivering architecture, art, printing and design workshops and projects at museums, galleries, festivals and schools around the country.
About the Workshop Series
For ages 7-10, our Design Quest workshops inspire younger children to use their imagination and hands-on creativity for a fun introduction to architecture. Previous workshops have seen participants create optical illusions, design sustainable dens, build stage sets, develop an animated story around a public space or assemble a house for a mouse.
Based in London, mainly our HQ at 66 Portland Place, all participants must arrive by 11am. These workshops are led by professional educators and all materials are included in the ticket price, but lunch is not provided.
If you're under 18, tickets must be booked by a parent or guardian. Online booking in advance is essential and if we do not receive full registration information in advance of the event we cannot allow the participant to attend.
Some of our workshops involve a visit to an offsite location that is designed to enhance the learning experience and provide vital real-world context. Children are supervised by RIBA staff and volunteers at all times during such visits and location information is provided in advance.
To see other learning workshops taking place in this series, see our families and children page.
