About this event

Trams were a common sight on London streets in the first half of the 20th century, and by 1914 the London County Council was running services across inner London. Visit our display to see how posters with evocative styling were used to promote tram services.

You'll see a variety of styles with facsimiles of 40 tramways posters on one wall, from early black and white to the more colourful examples. The posters promote leisure and sporting activities, shopping, days out and cheaper Sunday fares to publicise all that London had to offer.

Alongside this you'll find two display cases, each showcasing an original artwork for a poster and a selection of official tramways guides, photographs and maps.

This small display is located in the Information Area on the first floor at The London Archives.
