As part of the OCLC's Distinguished Speaker Series, we are delighted to welcome Professor of Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise in Digital Education, Kate Borthwick from the University of Southampton. To mark the launch of the OCLC's new shortcourse ‘Teaching Languages and Cultures with AI’ at the Open University, Kate Borthwick will discuss the rising importance of AI literacy.

About the talk:

The talk will draw out the increasing importance of AI literacy and why this should become an essential aspect of all of our language teaching. It will emphasise the need to take critical approaches in order to unlock the creative power of AI-assisted language teaching and learning, and empower our language students.

About the speaker:

Kate Borthwick is a Professor of Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise in Digital Education at the University of Southampton. She is the Chair of the cross-institutional University Generative AI in education working group and the academic lead for GenAI. She is the Director of Open Online Courses and lead for the University’s partnership with Futurelearn. She chairs the University Digital Education Advisory Group which advises senior leadership on strategy in relation to digital education. She is a linguist by background and a lecturer and researcher in digitally-mediated language learning and teaching.
