About the project...
Sessions in Patrington will run one Thursday morning per month (dates are listed on our webiste. Times and days may vary at other venues). The project began as the Draw More (Pocklington) project, where we gratefully received a small grant from HEY SMILE Foundation to arrange the venue for the trial period and get some equipment to make the sessions run smoothly. The project was a great success and we receievd funding (with thanks) from the Hull and East Riding Charitable Trust to run the project in new areas until Sepetmber 2025. We are offering access to these sessions for FREE but we do accept donations if you wish to donate (suggested donation maximum £5 per session). Please choose ticket type FREE or MAKE A DONATION. Donations are entirely optional, as we wish to make this project available without financial barriers. Any donations will be used specifically for this project (The booking agent may take a very small percentage fee of donations made). This project will run on a trial basis until September 2025, to see how sustainable the costs are and evaluate the interest in participation.
What to expect...
The session is open from 10am and we will begin the the session with the opportunity for hot drinks and chat - followed by a guided drawing session from around 10.10am. Holly will guide you through a drawing as you watch her draw on the projector screen and join in. We usually have a comfort break at around 11.10am and then we continue our drawing until about 11.40pm. There will be resources provided to use throughout. There will also be time to get a bit of one-to-one advice or support at the end of the session, if you want it. There is no requirement to 'show' or share your work - just join in and enjoy the shared drawing experience. Drawing activities will be suitable for beginners, with the opportunity for more experienced artists to take their drawing a little further if they wish. You are free to take your work with you at the end of the session. We may take photographs of the work in the session but we always seek your consent before doing so. There is no requirement to be in any photographs or videos.
We will also be recording some online drawing tutorials that you can access at home to do, only if you wish to (it isn't homework, we promise).
How many people can attend?
We can accommodate quite a few people, but we do have a limit. Therefore, it is best and preferable to us if you can BOOK your place using our ticket options. If you are booking for a group of people, please ensure you complete a ticket for each participant. When booking, you just need to leave us your name and contact details (in case there is a last minute cancellation of the venue and we need it get hold of you). If you are booking a place online, you will be asked to choose a FREE ticket or a MAKE A DONATION ticket. We want to stress that whichever ticket type you choose is entirely optional and we will never refuse access to a place based on whether you make a donation. We want everyone to be able to attend.
What is provided?
We provide:
- Paper, pencils and quality basic drawing equipment
- Clipboard easel to lean on
- Source images to refer to
- Tuition and support (if desired)
- Hot drinks and biscuits(tea, coffee and hot chocolate
- Online drawing tutorials to do at home (if you want to)
Do I have to come every month?
No, sessions are booked as and when you want to. We release the sessions booking links around 4 weeks in advance (straight after the previous session) . If you book and cannot make it or need to cancel, just let us know by email or phone on 01759486020.
I am a complete beginner. Can I still come?
Absolutely! You are exactly the person we would like to see join us. Drawing is so much fun and very relaxing. Don't worry if you haven't really drawn before. There is no expectation to share your work so if you are a little shy of other people seeing your work then that's fine. We do sometimes take photos to share online but we would ALWAYS ask your permission.
Is there somewhere to park?
At this venue, there is a car park to the rear (places may be limited). There is also some parking nearby on-street.
How long will the project run for?
We have set the project up to run for a trial of 6 months (in extension to our original Pocklington project). In this period we will evaluate whether the project is sustainable with regard to costs, suitability and participation. We hope to extend the project if we can meet our sustainability criteria. We will make a decision on the project's future at the end of the trial period. We welcome feedback on the project and we will set up a MONITORING AND EVALUATION link that will be sent to you or given as a paper copy. All information provided will be used to monitor and evaluate the project. We kindly ask that particpants please complete the link at least once during the duration of the trial period (you can complete it more than once during the project duration if you wish).
