About this course

Frottage is a fun way to do art where actual drawing is kept to a minimal. It is a technique made famous by artist Max Ernst (1891 – 1976), where he would create many masterpieces by obtaining an impression of a surface texture such as wood, by placing a piece of paper over it and rubbing it with a soft pencil or graphite.

Over the course , you will learn how to successfully create art images with the Frottage technique, using lots of colour and minimal drawing elements.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Build confidence using Frottage technique.
  • Create a variety of finished 2D outcomes.
  • Understand and be able to use a variety of media such as pen, pencil, paint and graphite.
  • Learn all about Max Ernst (1891 – 1976).

Resources required:

  • A basic sketchbook/notepad or paper to draw onto
  • Pen
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Rubber
  • Sharpener
