In this case, a 3-year-old sustained a severe head injury in 2017, needing lifelong specialised care with medical findings revealing prior fractures and brain bleeding. The child’s parents, young asylum seekers, had prior agency involvement; multiple safeguarding referrals were made due to missed medical appointments and repeated hospital visits for injuries. Initially, palliative care was considered but following an improved prognosis, the child was discharged after two years. The mother was subsequently charged and convicted of child neglect.
The webinar will begin with an overview of the case which will focus on the emerging themes and learning identified from the review. This will be followed by a talk focusing on the importance of effective discharge planning and how to implement it. The webinar will finish with a Q&A session.
