About this event

Greyfriars Kirkyard stands as witness to many of the momentous developments and events that have shaped Edinburgh over the centuries. Here we can still find much evidence of the pre-Reformation period, the defence of the city, the Reformation itself, the growth of the city, and periods of prosperity, plague, social upheaval, and warfare. Through looking at the Kirkyard, the memorials in it, and the people buried here, we can still feel those events and the impact they had on life and death in Edinburgh.

This event will take the form of a 90-minute guided tour. Please meet at the brown 'Greyfriars' sign just inside the Candlemaker Row entrance next to Greyfriars Bobby's Bar. The Kirkyard contains uneven terrain and stairs which may not be suitable for people with mobility issue and/or those with prams. Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome. Please note there are no public toilets in Greyfriars Kirkyard, the nearest being in the National Museum of Scotland across the street.
