BACKGROUND

The partnership between Myerscough College and The National Stud sees the programmes available to learners and employers across England, with Level 2 and Level 3 Equine Groom Apprenticeships (Breeding Pathway) available.The apprenticeship route offers hands-on experience, a comprehensive curriculum covering all aspects of breeding and bloodstock and expert on the job learning. Details of the programmes are as follows:

Qualification : Level 2 Equine Groom (Breeding Pathway)

Duration: 15 months

Cost: Fully funded or 95% funded – must be based in England

Entry Level: Intermediate, 16+

This is a practical, “hands on” occupation where apprentices will work under supervision individually or as part of a diverse team. The Equine Groom is an integral part in the life of the horse, providing essential day-to-day care.

All apprentices must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week although exceptions are considered on an individual basis.

Qualification: Level 3 Senior Equine Groom (Breeding Pathway)

Duration: 18 months

Cost: Fully funded or 95% funded – must be based in England

Entry Level: Advanced, 16+

The Senior Equine Groom will be capable of looking after a small to medium sized equine yard and supervising a diverse team of workers. All apprentices must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week although exceptions are considered on an individual basis.

Cost and funding rate is determined by the age of the apprentice and also employer size.
