About this event
On Thursday 5th October at 12.30pm we will be joined by Dr. Rama Salla Dieng who has been a Lecturer in African Studies and International Development at the University of Edinburgh since January 2019. A Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, she has worked in policy research in Africa before joining academia. This rich background allows her to ground her research and teaching in her lived work experience in African contexts.
Her main research focus on land, labour, social reproduction, capitalist accumulation, feminist social movements and the politics of development, at the intersections of African feminism, critical agrarian studies and political economy.
Rama is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer (Honorary) of the Mandela School of Public Governance, University of Cape Town, South Africa and a Research Associate at the Laboratoire de Recherches sur les Transformations Sociales en Afriques (LARTES/IFAN(University Cheikh Anta Diop, Senegal). Rama serves on the boards of the UK Development Studies Association (DSA).
Since early 2021, Edinburgh Race Equality Network (EREN) have been running a series of lunchtime talks to highlight and celebrate the careers and achievements of our UoE colleagues. We see these events as a positive step toward connecting and sharing ideas and experiences across our network and beyond. The talks will continue to run throughout 2023-24 between 12:30-1:15pm on different days of the week.
