GRADE: Beginners/ Intermediate; 10 miles (16 km) with over 200m of ascent over varied terrain, including rural paths, riverside trails and country roads. Suitable for those with a general level of fitness.
ROUTE:
Starting in the charming village of Eynsford, this circular hike follows parts of the Darent Valley Path, passing historical sites such as Lullingstone and along tranquil riverside paths and through woodland.
The highlight of the day awaits towards the end of the hike, with a visit to Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation, home to stunning birds of prey and a sanctuary to other animals. Here, you can witness the majesty of eagles, falcons, hawks, and owls up close, while learning about the foundation’s important conservation work. With over 100 birds and other animals to discover, Eagle Heights offers a fantastic end to your day of exploration. There’s also the opportunity to enjoy live flying demonstrations, offering a unique chance to see these magnificent creatures in action.
We plan to spend at least 1.5-2 hours enjoying the exhibits, bird displays, and stunning valley views before our return back to Eynsford where people are welcome to stop for a well-deserved drink before catching the train home.
