What is Fen Speak?

Fen Speak is a friendly and welcoming spoken word open mic night. Operating out of the Cambridgeshire Fens, our online events welcome writers and performers from all over the world.

What is the format of the event?

Accepted Answer

Usual format is to start with open mics slots, then the headline act. We then take a short break, and then the second half features another short set from our headliner, before finishing with the rest of the open mic contributors.

Question 3

How long are the open mic slots?

Accepted Answer

Open mic slots are about 2-3mins for poetry (so 1 or 2 poems, maybe 3 if they are short), or about 5mins for prose.

What time do you start?

The event starts promptly at 7.30PM, so please arrive before then. The virtual Zoom room is open from 7PM, so feel free to arrive any time from then, especially if you want to do a sound check/sort out technical issues, or if you want to chat (we're a friendly bunch!)

What is Zoom?

Zoom is software to provide online video conferencing facilities. We use Zoom to deliver the event. Open mic readers will use the microphone and camera on their phone or laptop to broadcast themselves to other people in the Zoom meeting. Find out more on their website https://zoom.us/.
