The Frances Hardinge Conference welcomes academics, fans and people who regard themselves as both! We will have talks including a keynote from Alison Baker (University of East London) and of course a keynote from Frances Hardinge herself.

The deadline is September 30th 2025.


Venue: Aston University, Birmingham. The venue has been chosen for its proximity to a major train station, and airport, and for its good Accessibility.

The price includes:

Lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and dinner on Saturday evening (as there are no restaurants nearby): food allergies and preferences will be gathered nearer the time and will be respected.

A collection of all papers, as an ebook.


There is no conference hotel, but there are many hotels in the area. Recommendations will be made one year out from the conference.

Am I eligible for a concession?

If you aren’t sure whether you qualify for the concessionary rate, start from the London Living Wage.b£11.95 an hour, £418.25 a week, or around £21k a year. If you are below this, yes, you are eligible. Between £21k and £30k please make your decision according to your circumstances. I trust you.

How accessible is the venue?

Aston University Conference venue has very good physical accessibility with ramps and elevators available throughout. The conference will be microphoned and all delegates will have the opportunity to indicate other access support needed. We will do our utmost to support delegates.

Are refunds available if I cannot attend.

Refunds are guaranteed up to three months out from the conference. In the final three months of the conference we will refund only if we have reached our target of 50 people. in the last month we will refund only for emergency situations and if the conference is in surplus.
