The Documentary Impulse is a workshop aimed at producing a series of images to tell a story visually. The title is taken from the book of the same title by Stuart Franklin, who famously photographed the 'tank man' image in Beijing, China. The workshop will be split into two distinct parts; a photographic safari looking for eight specific images:
- A close-up image or detail
- A landscape image
- A portrait (candid or posed)
- An unusual viewpoint
- Letters in the environment
- An abstract image
- Colour
- An image showing pattern or texture
followed by (after a short break) a look at editing digital images using Adobe Photoshop and / or Lightroom.
The workshop will be run by Barry Gore who is an experienced teacher and photographer. He has been involved with the arts scene since the mid-1980s, as a musician, photographer and graphic designer. He currently works as a teacher of Art and Photography at a Pupil Referral Unit.
This workshop is part of a wider two-year National Lottery Heritage Fund project ‘Creative Underground’, coordinated by St Helens Library Service.
