Fancy yourself as a nature detective? Join London Gatwick, Gatwick Greenspace Partnership and local ecologists on our mission to identify as many different species of birds, bugs, plants and beasties as we can in a day.
This event is hosted in one of London Gatwick’s Biodiversity Areas, the Gatwick Stream Flood Alleviation Field, a wildflower meadow adjacent to the Gatwick Stream.
Welcome to anyone interested in wildlife; experts and novices alike. Join in with our guided events on the agenda below or feel free to drop- in, roam and record.
We highly encourage any biological recording groups to join us and undertake their own surveys outside of our scheduled activities and share findings to add to our final species count. We will have a member of Sussex Biological Recording Centre present on the day to collect any data submissions.
For those new to identifiying species but keen to learn and explore on their own, there will be sweep nets, sample pots and ID guides available to borrow on the day so you can explore the area and have a go at identifying on your own. We will have people available to support with identificaitons.
Events are suitable for all ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult. We will have drop in activities for you to enjoy with your children such as biodiversity bingo and seedbomb creation stations so please pop along any time between 10 and 1430 to take part.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all our young explorers and wildlife friends, we kindly ask that you leave your furry friends at home. Thank you for understanding.
