About The Speaker

Meet the Speaker Matt Dowling Matt Dowling boasts a decade of extensive experience as a freelance photographer, complemented by 15-years spearheading businesses that provide crucial support to freelancers. Widely regarded as a prominent figure in the industry, Matt has over 10,000 hours training, coaching, and consulting individuals in this arena. Matt has delivered talks and workshops at universities, prominent institutions, and prestigious events. His insights have garnered recognition in renowned publications including the FT, the Guardian, Forbes, Huffington Post, the BBC, and LBC, among other esteemed media outlets, radio programs, and podcasts.

About Freelancer Club

In 2008, Matt Dowling spent his last £300 on a lawyer in an effort to recover £11,000 that was owed to him from an unpaid invoice. The final attempt failed. Matt, a freelance photographer, was broke, frustrated and out of ideas. The story made the national press and freelancers reached out with similar tales. Realising the need for support and determined to put a stop to the exploitation of creative freelancers, the seeds of Freelancer Club were sown. Today, Freelancer Club is one of the leading creative communities online with over 65,000 freelancer members supporting one another. We empower freelancers through an ecosystem, providing them with training, resources, mentorship, and a vibrant community to thrive in.

About Better Space

This workshop will be held at Better Space, in the lower ground floor presentation area which is fully accessible by lift and entry from the main door on Farringdon road. Please arrive no earlier than 12:00, unless you book a taster coworking day or day pass which can be done by emailing betterspace@city.ac.uk. There are washroom facilities and access to water, tea and coffee, as well as on-road bike racks.
