About this event

Join Becki and the Ghosts & Giggles team for an unforgettable night of ghost hunting at Llanthony Secunda Priory. As we explore the historic grounds, we’ll be searching for the mysterious Lady in White, the huddled family, and the lost priors of centuries past.

A Place Steeped in History

Founded in 1136 by Miles de Gloucester, 1st Earl of Hereford, the priory was established after Augustinian canons were forced to flee the original Llanthony Priory near Monmouth due to attacks from the local Welsh population. Llanthony Secunda became known for its cheese-making tradition, with records from 1502 showing the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Prior of Llanthony gifting Llanthony Cheese to Elizabeth of York, the wife of Henry VII. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the priory was sold by the Crown to Arthur Porter, whose family lived in parts of the building until 1697, after which it was used as a farmstead.

Today, only fragments of the once-grand priory remain, including the Tithe Barn, Medieval Range, Western Gatehouse, Victorian Farmhouse, and the 16th-century Brick Range. These eerie and atmospheric spaces will be the setting for our paranormal experiments.

Important Information:

  • Wear comfortable, waterproof shoes
  • Bring a torch
  • Dress appropriately for the weather, as we will be exploring both indoors and outdoors

Prepare for a night of chills, mystery, and the unknown. Will you encounter the spirits of Llanthony Secunda Priory?

Llanthony Secunda Priory in Gloucester was once a large and rich Augustinian priory, founded just outside the city walls in 1136.

Llanthony is now a scheduled ancient monument with Grade I listed buildings and structures set in 5 acres of grounds; a miracle of survival situated next to Gloucester's historic docks.

The grounds are open daily for everyone to visit and enjoy. The restored buildings can be hired for meetings, funtions and weddings, and the Llanthony Secunda Priory Trust (a registered charity) hosts a number of events and activities throughout the year.
