About this event
- Event lasts 2 days 5 hours
The Centre for Fantasy and the Fantastic and the University of Glasgow are happy to announce the seventh annual GIFCon: Queering the Fantastic. GIFCon 2025 is a three-day virtual conference that seeks to examine how academics, creative practitioners, and fans "queer" fantastika.
GIFCon is a completley free and online event. All Keynotes will be available for asynchronous watching on the Centre for Fantasy and the Fantastic's YouTube. Paper panels are recorded and shared for a short period after the conference has concluded.
The full programme, workshops, roundtables, seminar, keynote information and reading list, paper panelist abstract and bios, and How to Join the Discord can be found on the Centre for Fantasy and the Fantastic's Blog through the GIFCon-specific drop down menu at the top.
All workshops run at the same time this year. Waitlist tickets are held for 24 hours once released by Eventbrite.
Unfortunately, if an attendee checks out with multiple Workshop tickets, all Workshop tickets will be revoked as they run concurrently and the committee will be unable to tell which Workshop ticket is actually intended.
Join the GIFCon community online by following our social media: Bluesky, Twitter, Facebook, Discord, and Instagram.
If you would like to hear from the Centre via e-mail with news about future GIFCons, upcoming events, and other activities or opportunities, please sign-up for the Centre for Fantasy and the Fantastic mailing list.
Frequently asked questions
Through your Eventbrite registration, you will receive an email daily with the full programme, including links and passcodes for that day's events.
No, we will not save or publish the chat transcripts. As much as we love the conversations that happen there, we pride ourselves on respecting the privacy of those who attend GIFCon. If you see something in a Zoom chat you want to save, it's better to copy and paste it yourself.
Keynotes and the Roundtables are uploaded live to the Centre for Fantasty and the Fantastic's YouTube Channel. Paper panels are recorded and distributed via email after GIFCon, where they are available for 2 weeks after the upload date. Other events are not recorded.
Workshops are limited just as they would be in-person and tickets become available April 30. You will receive or have already received an Eventbrite email containing information on signing up for workshops, you need to follow the email's instructions for signing up for workshops through Eventbrite.
The Networking Event is a popular social place to connect with other researchers and creators across GIFCon and to provide a focused and smaller place to foster conversations around Fantastika and efforts to create community.
GIFCon has been digital for several years, we have created the Discord as a more focused and private space to engage socially and virtually with others across GIFCon wherever they are in the world. The blog has instructions for joining. Join link here: https://discord.com/invite/zCQ52AmggS.
