About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours

💸 This year Deliveroo reported its first shareholder profits. Meanwhile, riders working in our city are earning less than the minimum wage and are subject to worsening terms and conditions.

🌯 Food delivery is dangerous work, often done by migrant workers, who have fewer rights and support.

🚲 In this context, a group of food delivery workers from Spanish-speaking and South Asian communities have been investigating the exploitative practices of algorithm-driven platforms like Deliveroo and Just Eat, and are mapping a new route towards fair work for gig workers in Scotland.

📢 Join us to discover insights on how platforms monitor and control work in Edinburgh, and to help shape a route to fair work for on-demand workers in Scotland.

🎟 NOTE: This event has two sections: you can come to either or both.

👉🏾 Agenda Setting

Starting time: 15:00

Help set the agenda in this interactive section. Hear about the Observatory and think about how your work, resources and expertise can fit with our future projects for fairer gig work.

👉🏾 Inquiry Launch

Starting time: 17:30

In this section, we will launch a short video, and present and discuss findings of the inquiry by gig workers to get to grips with how algorithms and AI are reshaping their work.

See you there!
