About this event
The GRANITE GAMES are back!
We're back for another year of bringing people together from all levels of fitness and different sporting backgrounds to show off your strengths, get out of your comfort zones and support each other through the GAUNTLET (if you know you know!).
This year we're going even bigger and better!
Here's what you need to know:
- The event will take place over two days on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June.
- There are 4 categories with 4 events each (16 in total). The categories are Strength, Power, Endurance and Agility.
- Competitors will have to choose 12 of the 16 events to compete in.
- Competitors must compete in at least one event from each category.
- Competitors are awarded points for where they place in each event.
- A final medley event “The Gauntlet” will be held on Sunday afternoon which all competitors must take part in. This will award further points based on the time the competitor completes the course.
- The male competitor and female competitor with the most total points at the end of the weekend wins
Team entrants:
- Teams will consist of four competitors.
- Each team must have at least one male and one female competitors.
- Each competitor will compete in 4 events.
- The total score of each competitor is added together for the team’s total score
- Each competitor must complete a section of the final gauntlet
- The team with the most total points at the end of the weekend wins
The Events Are:
STRENGTH - Sponsored by Granite LePelley
Max Reps Deadlift - The Competitor completes as many reps of 150% of their bodyweight as possible. Belts and lifting shoes are permitted but no straps. 90sec time cap
Max Reps Bench Press - The Competitor completes as many reps of 60% of their bodyweight as possible. 1 rep = bar to chest then full extension of the elbows.
Plate Carry - The Competitor must complete as many laps as possible of a 20m stretch back and forth carrying weight plates in each hand (15kg for men and 10kg for women). If the Competitor drops the plates they must run to either end of the stretch before picking them up again.
Granite Lift and Load - The Competitor must pick up granite stones and load them on to a platform. The stones are arranged by weight and shape. The harder to lift the more points they are worth. The aim is to score as many points in one minute.
POWER - Sponsored by Athletic Approach
Vertical Jump - Competitors take turns to jump on to a plyo box. Each round a mat is added to increase the height. Once a Competitor fails to land on the box they are out. The last competitor to land a jump takes first place. Run ups are allowed. Competitors must finish in a standing position on the box
Long Toss - The Competitor must throw a 3kg medicine ball as far as possible from a line. The distance is measured from the line to where the medicine ball lands. Roll included.
Long Jump - the Competitor must complete a traditional long jump in to a sand pit. They are scored on the distance from the closest mark in the sand to the take off point.
Weighted Sled Sprint - The Competitor must sprint while dragging a sled across a 40m stretch. The sled is loaded with 25kg for men and 15kg for women.
AGILITY
Accuracy Drill - the Competitor must throw and catch an agility ball by bouncing it off of a target alternating hands. The aim is to complete as many bounces and catches as possible in one minute.
5-10-5 Shuttle Drill - the Competitor starts in a three-point stance, sprints 5 yards to their side, turns and sprints 10 yards the opposite direction, and finally 5 yards back through the starting line, with the total time recorded.
Reaction Lights - The Competitor must touch as many lights on the blaze pods on a random setting as possible within one minute
Agility Course - The Competitor must complete a lap of the parkour style obstacle course as fast as possible. The course will include elements of vaulting, balance and a controlled landing.
ENDURANCE
Weighted Walking Lunges - The Competitor must perform walking lunges while carrying a sandbag on their shoulders for as many reps as possible. Once 3 seconds has elapsed without a rep the athlete’s attempt ends
Dead Hang - The Competitor must hang from a bar by their hands for as long as possible. Chalk and alternating hands is allowed however straps are not permitted.
Max Reps Pull Ups and Press Ups - The Competitor must complete as many strict, military style pull ups as possible followed by as many press ups as possible. The athlete will have 5secs to transition from one to the other
Over/Under Shuttles - The Competitor must travel over and under obstacles to reach the opposite side of a 15m course within 10 seconds (think bleep test) for as many laps as possible.
We will issue a google form for entrants to complete with their event selection in due course. This will need to be submitted before the 14th June.
