HELVELLYN from Thirlmere

Join us on the lesser-known Thirlmere ascent of Helvellyn on this beautiful hike to Grisdale Tarn and onwards to bag three Wainwrights.

Meeting at a Swirls carpark, beside Thirlmere Reservoir, we start gently through the woods and skirt the base of the mountains. Eventually, we take a sharp left to ascend alongside a trickling waterfall to the it's source of Grisdale Tarn. After a short break here, we begin to climb again to summit our first Wainwright of the day, Dollywaggon Pike. Onwards to Nethermost Pike and then to Helvellyn Summit itself and the breathtaking views across the entire Lake Disrtict. After a break for refreshments and photos, we descend back to the car park.

This hike promises remote mountain hiking with fantastic views all around. It's one not to be missed from the Take A Hike calendar.

Wainwrights:
1. Dollywaggon Pike
2. Nethermost Pike
3. Helvellyn

Although there is no technical terrain, this is a challenging hike in a remote mountainous environment. A good level of fitness is required. Groups are encouraged to stick together and there are no medals for finishing first.
