Join us for a safe and mindful guided walk to Hilbre Island, a hidden gem in the Dee Estuary. Tailored to the needs of each group, this experience can be a simple, relaxed stroll for those looking to connect with nature or an enriching exploration of the island's fascinating history. Whether you want to unwind, learn, or simply enjoy good company, this walk, led by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide, is for you.
The walk lasts approximately 2.5 hours, and Hilbre’s serene beauty has been described as otherworldly, beautiful, and engaging by previous participants. It’s not a hike but a slow-paced, gentle walk where you are encouraged to open your senses, breathe in the sea air, and escape the worries of everyday life. You’ll be safely guided through this unique tidal experience, with the guide taking care of the tides, weather, and route, ensuring a safe and enjoyable visit.
Hilbre Island has been a place of spiritual significance since the Dark Ages, named after St. Hildeburgh, an Anglo-Saxon saint. Its history is rich, from the 'miracle of the sands' in the 12th century to being a Victorian destination for nature lovers. Even in the 21st century, it remains a place to find connection, perspective, and meaning.
Key Information:
- The walk is planned to start two hours after high tide and covers 7 km (2.5 hours).
- Suitable for those capable of a moderate Sunday walk.
- The terrain can be uneven and slippery, so sensible footwear is essential.
- Bring waterproofs, sufficient drinks, snacks, and, if sunny, a hat and sunscreen.
- The event will be postponed or cut short if the weather turns inclement.
- Dogs are welcome but must remain on a lease on the larger islands.

- No refunds are available within 7 days of the event, but alternative dates may be offered during the season.
- Led by a qualified outdoor pursuits instructor abiding by the Mountain Training Association's code of conduct: Mountain Training Code.
