About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

The Manchester Central Library and the Instituto Cervantes of Manchester proudly present the Hispanic Film Club, beginning with a series that celebrates the richness of Hispanic cinema by showcasing stories of resilience, identity, and humanity. From Pedro Almodóvar’s acclaimed All About My Mother to the imaginative Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles, these films present profound narratives. Iciar Bollain’s Yuli offers a moving biopic of a Cuban ballet star, while Javier Fesser’s Campeones delights with its heartwarming humour. Aluda Ruiz de Azúa’s Lullaby examines family bonds with emotional depth, and Damian Szifron’s Wild Tales provides a darkly comedic exploration of human nature.

Join us for this cinematic journey through the voices and visions of contemporary Hispanic filmmakers!

Sixth screening: Relatos Salvajes[Wild Tales] by Damián Szifron

Synopsis:

This comic film from Argentina satirises the country’s corruption and complacency. Each story leads you through the protagonist’s increasing states of irk and agitation, building the pressure until they finally explode into riotous acts of violence and revenge.

A model on a plane discovers a strange coincidence with other passengers on a flight; a waitress serves up just desserts to a cantankerous customer; an obnoxious driver triggers a series of road-rage incidents; a parking warden tows the car of a demolition expert one too many times; a wealthy businessman tries to cover up his spoilt son’s misdemeanors; and a bride takes revenge on her philandering groom. Deliciously humorous!
