Homeward Bound UK Collective - celebrating leading women in STEMM

Join us for a fun and inspiring evening at Homeward Bound UK Collective's inaugural function! This event is all about celebrating the remarkable achievements of women in STEMM, and how the Homeward Bound leadership programme has helped alumnae based in the UK.

Details as follows:

  • Ye Olde Cock Tavern on Fleet Street, London, EC4Y 1AA
  • We will have a panel discussion hearing from leading UK based Homeward Bound alumnae
  • After the panel discussion, attendees will be encouraged to have a drink, network, and make meaningful connections with others with a keen interest in sustainability and gender equlity in STEMM.
  • Ticket price includes bar snacks. Drinks will be available to purchase from the bar downstairs. Any leftover funds from this event will be donated to the Homeward Bound scholarship fund. This facilitates participation from women who otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to join the Homeward Bound programme.

  • Dr Madeleine Hann (Homeward Bound 3): Madeleine is a geographer from Shetland leading transformation in specialist areas of UK Government. Dr Hann grew up in the Shetland Islands of Scotland, and lived in Northern Norway for 7 years. She has special interests and expertise in Remote Sensing and in Training and Education.
  • Alexandra Jenkin (Homeward Bound 4): Aexandra is a specialist in science communication, Alex has worked in the science education arena for over 12 years. She currently manages the Science and Plants for Schools project, a national programme supporting UK school science teachers and technicians. She travelled to Antarctica with Homeward Bound in 2019.
  • Dr Carole Durussel (Homeward Bound 5): Carole became hooked on ocean conservation at a young age and started her career in the field of marine sciences, working on whale conservation projects. Aware of the importance of linking research to policy to achieve better ocean conservation, Carole undertook a PhD in international environmental law and has been working for over 10 years with policymakers to support science-based decision making for the conservation of biodiversity in the high seas, including providing expertise to the global negotiations for a high seas treaty under the United Nations that was adopted in June 2023. Carole currently works as Deputy Secretary at the OSPAR Commission, an intergovernmental organisation with the mandate to protect the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic.
  • Dr Rebecca Wade (Homeward Bound 5): Rebecca is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science at Abertay University in Dundee, Scotland. In her day job she is on a personal mission to help the next generation of civil engineers, and their profession, to work collaboratively and sustainably to address climate change. She is an award-winning STEM Ambassador and was also named ‘Woman of Influence 2022’ by Action for Children Scotland. Her teaching and research focus on sustainable water management (including river restoration, sustainable drainage, ecosystem services and nature-based solutions). She has recently returned from a life-changing voyage to Antarctica, part of the prestigious Homeward Bound International Women in STEMM leadership programme.
  • Dr Harriet Teare (Homeward Bound 6): Harriet is a senior civil servant at the medicines and healthcare products regulatory agency (MHRA), having previously been a multidisciplinary researcher focused on different aspects of health. She joined homeward bound in 2021 as part of HB6, and has recently returned from her HB trip to Antarctica on board the Island Sky. She is particularly interested in the interplay between decisions relevant to individual health, and also the health of the planet.

The conversation will be moderated by International Leadership, Visibility & Impact Coach Founder & CEO - Artemis Futures International Limited, Kym Hamer. Kym has over 30 years in strategy, marketing and innovation where she inspires and equips people to create more high value opportunities by unlocking their greatest asset – themselves. Among the best in B2B Leadership, Personal Branding and Thought Leaders in Entrepreneurship as well as host of the podcast Building Brand You, Kym is Strategy Faculty with Homeward Bound Projects, currently on HB8.
