About this event

The inimitable Geoff Dyer returns to Foyles for the launch of Homework, his characteristically perceptive and wry memoir, for a conversation with journalist Hattie Crisell.

A captivating portrait of postwar Britain and a searching personal history, Homework sees a master of language and insight turn his gaze on his own story. Evoking the atmosphere of sixties England and tracing the class codes of a divided education system, Dyer’s new work is a subtle examination of a generation and a culture.

Geoff Dyer is an award-winning author of four novels and numerous non-fiction books, including Out of Sheer Rage, Yoga for People Who Can’t Be Bothered to Do It, Zona and, most recently, The Last Days of Roger Federer. A fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Science, he has recently returned to London after ten years as Writer in Residence at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. His books have been translated into twenty-six languages.

Hattie Crisell is a journalist and author. Her book, In Writing: Conversations on Inspiration, Perspiration and Creative Desperation, was published by Granta Books in November 2024. Since 2019 she has produced and hosted the podcast In Writing with Hattie Crisell, interviewing writers of all kinds in their studies. She is a contributing editor of Grazia magazine and has written for The Times, Elle, Vogue, You, The Telegraph, The Evening Standard and The Sunday Times, among others.

The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. Doors will open from 6:45pm.
