Want to discover what it takes to turn a brilliant research idea into a real-life business? Heard the word ‘acceleration’, but not sure what it means or how it helps? Join Conception X and Science Creates for an afternoon of immersive learning, brainstorming and discovery, where we’ll be diving into deeptech spin-outs and how accelerators help them get started.


Agenda:

14:00 Training session: What does it take to translate your research into a successful deeptech startup? Richard Anson, Conception X Academic Lead, will cover everything you need to consider to get started.

15:00 Information session: Learn more about how Conception X and Science Creates work to help deeptech innovation thrive in the UK. You’ll hear from both companies about their accelerator programmes, what they offer and how they can help you get your idea off the ground.

15:45 Ideation workshop: As part of this hands-on session, you will have the opportunity to discuss and workshop your idea one on one with the Conception X leadership team.

16:30 Break

17:00 Panel discussion: Launching a deeptech startup - how acceleration helped me. Hear from Conception X and Science Creates cohort members and alumni, as we explore the journey from scientist to deeptech founder and the lived experience of being part of an accelerator.

17:30 Drinks, nibbles and networking at the Science Creates Bar. Meet fellow innovators, explore the latest trends and technologies emerging from university labs in the region, and discuss opportunities for research commercialisation in the South West.

Conception X Travel Reimbursement Policy

As part of the Conception X event, How to become a deeptech founder: an introduction to acceleration (24 September 2024), we would like to offer up to 25 travel bursaries for attendees travelling to this event from outside of Bristol and from the following universities:

  • University of Bristol
  • University of Exeter
  • University of Plymouth
  • University of Gloucestershire
  • University of the West of England


If you are interested in applying for this bursary (on a first come, first served basis), please contact hello@conceptionx.org for more information. Please note that we have capped the bursary at £30 per person.


This is a needs-based scheme; recognising that limited financial means can be the result of many factors, we therefore encourage in particular applications from PhD students, Early Career Researchers, and those from under-represented groups (including but not limited to, gender, identity, ethnicity, etc.), and/or geographic areas.
