Indian Spring Colours: Debasmita Bhattacharya & Gurdain Rayatt

Debasmita Bhattacharya, a highly accomplished sarod player from Kolkata, West Bengal, is rapidly emerging as a prominent figure in the Indian classical music world. Known for her extraordinary talent and captivating performances, she has garnered widespread acclaim both in India and internationally.

Born into a musically enriched family, Debasmita represents the esteemed Senia Shahjahanpur Gharana. Her journey into music began at the age of four under the guidance of her father and guru, the renowned sarod maestro Pandit Debasish Bhattacharya. She later honed her craft under the tutelage of the legendary Padma Bhushan Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, a celebrated sarod virtuoso of the Senia Shahjahanpur Gharana.

Gurdain Rayatt, one of the UK’s foremost tabla players, has been steeped in classical training since the age of three. Initially guided by his father and grandfather, Gurdain became a disciple of the late Pandit Shankar Ghosh of the Farukhabad Gharana and currently trains under Pandit Yogesh Samsi.
