"SWINE is capstone film of Ben Smith and Nathan Goodison's final year at Northumbria Uni. Directly inspired by Denis Villeneuve's 2008 short "Next Floor" and created with zero budget with the support of local contributors. The film received the 2024 Royal Television Society (North East & Borders) award for 'Best Student Drama'. SWINE was also nominated for 'Best Director', 'Best Music', 'Best Ensemble Performance' & 'Best Genre Film' in 2023's Maverick Movie Awards as well as being nominated for 'Best Student Film' at the 2023 Apex Movie Awards. The film was also officially selected to be screened at York's Dead North film festival, Sunderland Shorts and Toronto Lift-off in Canada."
"After a couple years of finding the time and money to get to the finish line, I'm so happy to finally share this passion project and I'm incredibly proud of the effort from everyone involved on this journey. Louis' music and sound design was the final missing piece we needed and I'm extremely thankful that We Make Culture has supported his work to elevate it even higher" - Ariadne Vessaoker, Director, Cake Eater
The event is a partnership between PopFlix Community Cinema and We Make Culture, who have been supporting local composer Louis Wild through their Next Steps programme.
