Warwick Business School continues its annual celebration of International Women's Day at The Shard in 2019.

This year, to support the overall IWD theme of #BalanceforBetter, our business-led theme will be Better supporting Intra/Entrepreneurship, looking at how businesses can support entrepreneurs outside their organisation, and intrapreneurs within.

The day will be split into two sessions with an Entrepreneur Marketplace in between:

Panel: The value of networking for intra/entrepreneurs (L22, The Shard)

We are delighted to have assembled a fantastic panel of speakers from industry, to discuss the importance of networking for entrepreneurs, and the value of supporting intrapreneurship within a global business. The conversation will reference key WBS research in the area, while providing practical strategies how you can supporting better (in)formal networking both as an individual and through your organisation through diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives. Jellyfish are proud to host the panel session as supporters of International Women's Day.

Panellists:

Ilona Brannen, Global Learning and Innovation Consultant

Ilona is a passionate advocate of women, tech and learning. Throughout her career her passion to understand how humans and technology interact has taken her from teaching in Elephant and Castle all the way to research in Cuba and somehow being at Fidel Castro's funeral. In her current role at BTS she is a Director of Leadership Practice where she gets to use all her interests to help leaders become fit for the future and help businesses align their strategy through getting the people bit right. She can usually be found in London providing learning and technology innovation to her clients and loves listening to 90's music and practising yoga.

Christine Ennew, Provost, University of Warwick

Christine supports the Vice Chancellor in the academic leadership of the University of Warwick. She is responsible for the efficient and effective use of academic resources (including departmental resources, capital planning and space management, and information resources). In addition, she is Chair of the University’s Equality and Diversity Committee and is the Executive Board lead for the University environmental sustainability strategy and its implementation.

Christine graduated from Cambridge University and completed her PhD at Nottingham; she joined the University of Warwick in August 2016. She is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Observatory on Borderless Higher Education, a member of the Board of Directors for Common Purpose Student Experiences. She is also a Board Member for the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and Chair of its Regulation Committee.

Ken Hickey, Chief Financial Officer, Microsoft Worldwide Operations

As the CFO for Microsoft WW Operations, Ken leads a global finance organisation based across the US, Puerto Rico, Dublin, Luxembourg, India, China and Singapore. Prior to his current role Ken was the Senior Finance Director for Microsoft’s World-Wide Communications Sector business and Senior Finance Director for Microsoft’s European Operations Center. He joined Microsoft in 2007 and has worked in both Ireland and Redmond, WA (Microsoft’s Corporate Headquarters) during this time.

Before joining Microsoft, Ken spent 5 years as the Director of Financial Operations at Hertz Europe, and before that, help financial management roles in GE Capital, AIG Global Investment Group and Cambridge Group plc. Ken is a Fellow of the ACCA and the Association of Corporate Treasurers. Ken is an alumnus of the Warwick MBA, and was recently awarded a Diploma in Company Direction from the IoD. He is passionate about learning and lectures at University College Dublin. Ken also serves as a Non-Executive Director of Cheeverstown, a charity dedicated to creating a future which respects the contribution and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities. Ken’s personal interests are in rugby, running, reading, travel and tennis but most of his free time is spent with his wife and three children.

Louise Prashad, Global Talent Director, Diageo

Louise is Global Talent Director at Diageo, responsible for the talent strategy for the global leader in beverage alcohol with an outstanding collection of brands including Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan, Baileys, Don Julio, Tanqueray and Guinness. Diageo has 30,000 employees and operates across 180 countries.

Louise also leads Diageo’s Inclusion and Diversity Strategy which has seen the business be named the 4th most inclusive and diverse company in the world by Thomson Reuters and listed in the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index.

Louise has strong multi-market experience in both the developed and emerging world. Prior to her current role she held a number of senior HR roles spanning Diageo’s European, West LAC, North American, African and Supply Business.

Lucy Rae, Partnerships Director, Forgotten Women

Having worked her way up through the events sector, Lucy began working with the highest-level global conglomerates, worldwide governments, overseeing live Election TV debates, hosting UN Summits and organising some of the largest charity events in the world. During her time in the corporate sector Lucy always felt a strong desire to give back to those in need and felt a passion for women’s rights issues.

In 2013, her friend Sundeep Bahia mentioned setting up a charity to support women in poverty, to find solutions for these women to become self-sustainable without compromising their dignity. By 2016, Forgotten Women was formally registered as a charity and has gone from strength to strength. Lucy has travelled to the Syrian Border, Somalia and Malawi, driving new initiatives and rolling out projects where they are most needed. The Another Mother project has been a notable success in both Somalia and Malawi.

We are delighted to welcome Warwick MBA alumna Anna Barsby to our International Women's Day celebrations, who will be reflecting on her journey from Art History graduate to CIO in a major supermarket. Anna will also touch upon working in a male dominated IT industry, and balancing the demands of being a working parent.

Winner, CIO of the Year

Anna Barsby describes herself as a transformation leader who has delivered significant change across different industries. Her most recent role as the Chief Technology Director at Morrisons focused on the technology opportunities which provided business growth, and encouraged key skills and people to the supermarket retailer as part of her ambitious improvement plans.
